Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development Board has observed a Farmer’s Day at Kot Momin on 4th October, 2017. The theme of the training session is to educate the farmers regarding remunerations of “good agricultural and livestock practices” such as provision of balance diet and clean water to animals, disease mitigation through control and preventions, importance of silage and seasonal appropriate fodders for animals’ nourishment. A sum of around 200 farmers attended the training session. Professional speakers including Neyyar Sial, Col (r) Nadeem Akhter, Dr Muhmmad Zahid, and Dr Hussnain, addressed the farmers in native language for their better understanding. The speakers articulated the importance of balanced diet and clean water for better growth and productivity of animals. They stress that it is the responsibility of farmers to supply balanced diet included seasonal fodder or Silage and proper quantity of minerals and proteins along with adequate, clean, and pathogen-free water to their animals because it determined the performance of animals. Speakers educated the farmers about the characteristics of silage, its nutritious value, utility and availability of the whole year. They also guided the farmers how to prepare and preserve the silage for a long period of time. Speakers mentioned that hygienic feed and good management protect animals from diseases. Moreover, timely vaccination also protected them from different diseases and thus makes dairy farming profitable to their owners. PLDDB also distributed content related to cattle rearing, practices of increasing the animals’ productivity, prevention from diseases along with vaccination chart of the whole year, latest trends in fodder production, and importance of silage. The participants of this event appreciated the efforts of the PLDDB and suggested that such events create awareness among the poor farmers about the general farm practices and these events should be conducted on regular basis.
